Coming hot off their nail-biting loss to the Minnesota RollerGirls, the Tampa Tantrums returned to the East Coast Extravaganza facing Montreal's New Skids on the Block. The Tantrums had lost by the slimmest of margins to Minnesota (2 points) whereas Montreal had previously taken Dominion to town (288-27). Montreal would do so again here, beating Tampa with a 140 point lead (197-57).
Montreal grabbed a big lead right from the start, scoring eight points in their first two jams uncontested. Tampa's Sixgun Susie scored four next; putting her team on the board as well as setting the tone for the first half. Montreal scoring often, with Tampa coming up behind them snatching just enough points to stay in contention. Both teams had their spans of penalties, with Montreal better at coping with losing their jammer.
Here Nameless Whorror able to slow Sixgun down enough to kill Iron Wench's penalty, at which point Susie fouls out. Costly mistakes facilitated by the New Skids on the Block excellent pack control (45-20). Penalties not limited to the jammers, Tantrums jammers Flirtin W. Disaster and Little A had to jam extra hard to become lead jammers while their defense was two blockers lighter.
It wouldn't be until the end of the first half that Montreal put the screws to Tampa. One 15 point jam by Smack Daddy effectively doubled Montreal's lead (81-24). 20-25 points can easily be made up with a couple good jams, but 50-60? And the deficit would only get worse, hitting (93-24) at the half.
The second half plays out the same, only at an accelerated pace. Montreal's Ewan Wotarmy and Iron Wench providing the lion's share of scoring, as the Tantrums continued struggling with their penalties. Montreal just too effective at causing Little A or Lunch Lady to cut the track. Montreal kept pulling away; first breaking the 100 point lead mark before ending it at (197-57).
